In 1948, a group of men belonging to Gledholt Methodist Church formed a double male
quartet under the leadership of Joe Ripley and with Marcus Draper as the pianist to
sing at local churches, old people's homes, hospitals, etc. Gradually the original
double quartet expanded to become, first the Gledholt Glee Singers, next
the Ripley Singers for two years, and finally the Gledholt Male Voice Choir.
Gledholt Male Voice Choir is one of the leading choirs in Huddersfield.
Huddersfield is the centre of a musical district, which is home to many choral societies,
choirs of all kinds, orchestras and brass bands - indeed it is said there is a band and a choir
at every lamp-post in this area. However, of these, just one male voice choir remains based
within the old Huddersfield boundary: GLEDHOLT MALE VOICE CHOIR- celebrates its 70th Anniversary in 2018.
Our Chairman is Roger Ellis, who was elected chairman in 2017 and took over from Steven Daniel. Roger Ellis has been with the choir for over 25 years
and has held the post of Chairman before and we are delighted to have him as our Chairman again.
The Gledholt Male Voice Choir meets at Lindley Methodist Church Centre, every Tuesday evening. We have been making music for 70 years and continue to enjoy every moment. Come along and sing with us on a Tuesday.
We have a FACEBOOK page for the choir. If you have a facebook and you like us on our facebook, you can keep in touch with us and receive posts and messages through our facebook page.
Mr Raymond Butterworth was installed as our President in 2018. Mr Butterworth is a well known and respected
businessman in Huddersfield and has been the President of the Rotaray Club and the Chairman of the Common Goods Trust.
